Lighting
1) Still image analysis
Look at the still images on slides 33-37 of the Film Language Powerpoint linked above. Copy the images into your blog and answer the following questions for each image:
- Identify examples of high and low-key lighting.
- Say which depict top, back or under lighting.
- What effects are created by the lighting in each image?
Note: if the images don't display correctly in your blog then simply use the number of each image and answer the three questions for each.
- Lowkey lighting
- Back and side lighing.
- Effect: Half of her face is shrouded in darkness due to this use of lighting, creates the effect of femme fatale

- Effect: Eccentuates her features and creates a sense of horror and distress
Picture three:
- Highkey lighting
- Under lighting
- Effect: terror and allows for shadows to collect underneath his eyes, combined with his grimacing makes the audience feel like he is an evil figure

- Top lighting
- Effect: Allows light to collect on the mans face which makes a contrast from the dark black background which shows that he is a sinister character

- Under lighting
- Creates a large contrast between behind her body and in front of her body, sense of mystery and intrigue

- Back lighting
- Effect: They slightly blend into the background applying a sense of privacy as they are obscured to the audience

- Back lighting
- Effect: Creates mystery and an alienated mood since the shadows create an inhuman figure, and dark obscured sillhouettes

- Effect: Creates shadow behind the girl that looks like someone is behind her, employs for further sense of fear

- Top lighting
- Effect; Light shining down from the sky directly on his face as he looks up, can be seen as a divine light combined with his praying hands to create a holy and solemn atmosophere
Picture ten

- Back lighting
- Creates a sillhouete and employs mystery, leaving the audience wondering who he is

Highkey lighting used
Front lighting
Creates a sense of casualness, calm before the storm. Tension for the audience as they are anticipating the storm.
